Soured Mizithra Crumbled Whey Cheese from Crete, 500g

Sour Myzithra is a whey cheese made of goat and sheep milk. It is famous in Crete as it is used as primary ingredient in α number of local dishes. Namely filo pastry cheese pies with Mizithra and other ingredients, dakos salad which is includes Cretan barley rusks, grated sun ripened tomatoes, extra virgin olive oil and dried thyme or oregano as well as sprinkled on pasta.

Texture and Colour: It is characterised as a soft and creamy white cheese that is crumbled and ready to use as an ingredient.

Taste: The cheese is dry and with a slight acidic taste. Combines well with ripened tomatoes and can be used as an alternative to crumbled feta as it is less salty. It is also an excellent cheese to sprinkle over pasta or use in lasagna or cannelloni.
